Welcome
It is a privilege to represent Switzerland in Ghana, Benin and Togo – three countries with which Switzerland enjoys long-standing and diverse relations, and three important partners in a dynamic region of the African continent.
As Ambassador, I attach particular importance to dialogue – to listening to different perspectives, bringing people and ideas together, and identifying areas where our countries can continue to learn from one another and pursue common interests. Diplomacy is ultimately not only about relations between governments: diplomatic ties may be sustained by institutions, but it is people who give them life. The personal, professional and cultural ties built over the years are therefore an essential part of the relationships we seek to strengthen.
Switzerland established diplomatic relations with Ghana shortly after independence in 1957. Since then, our ties have steadily broadened and today encompass political dialogue, trade and investment, economic development, climate action, peace and security, education and culture. Our Swiss Cooperation Programme 2025-2028 supports sustainable growth, stronger institutions and private-sector development, while our climate partnership contributes to concrete action to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.
Switzerland and Benin likewise share a close relationship built over many decades, encompassing political dialogue, development cooperation and growing economic and people-to-people exchanges. The Swiss Cooperation Programme 2026-2029 focuses particularly on governance and peace, economic opportunities and skills development, while contributing to social cohesion, conflict prevention and resilience to climate change. Our Swiss Cooperation Office and Consular Agency in Cotonou reflects the depth and continuity of Switzerland's engagement in the country.
Switzerland's relations with Togo are also long-standing and continue to offer opportunities for closer political, economic and people-to-people exchanges. Our Honorary Consul General in Lomé provides consular support to Swiss nationals and contributes to maintaining contacts and facilitating exchanges.
While each of these relationships has its own history and character, they are also part of Switzerland's broader engagement with the African continent, reflected in our Africa Strategy 2025-2028. Our approach is guided by a common ambition: to build partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests, and to respond together to changing regional and global realities.
